CHARLOTTE, NC (Langston Wertz Jr./Charlotte Observer) - Hurricane Harvey's remnants could play a role in Friday evening's high school football schedule across the Charlotte region.

The center of what was once Harvey is in central Tennessee at midday Friday. Circulation around that system, combined with an unstable atmosphere, is expected to trigger widespread showers and thunderstorms Friday afternoon and evening.

The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Okla., has increased the risk of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes in the Charlotte area from "Slight" to "Enhanced." The risk is expected to continue into the evening and end late at night.

Much better conditions are expected Saturday through Monday.
