HICKORY, NC (WBTV) -

Two men have been arrested in the fatal shooting of two men at a Hickory apartment complex Thursday.

Branique Stephan McKnight, 18, and 20-year-old Kaverio Knox were shot and killed around 4:30 p.m. at the Ridgecrest Apartments on 12th Avenue SE.

Early Friday, 20-year-old Daniel Jeremiah Minton turned himself in at the Lenoir Police Department, where he was arrested. Maurice Craig Brown, 20, was also arrested in the case.

Police have not said what may have led to the shooting but did say they believe the victims knew the suspect(s).

Thursday night, police released a photo of one of the suspects.

Minton faces two murder charges. Brown was charged with two counts of accessory after the fact of murder.

Neighbors spoke to WBTV after the incident happened.

“This is not a bad neighborhood. This is just some random stuff that happened," said neighbor Anita Jackson.

Jackson told WBTV she had lost a child to violence several years ago.

“I went through this. My baby was killed 2005 and he was only 16 so these are somebody’s babies," said Jackson.

Another woman living in the apartment complex said she heard the shots.

“I just heard seven gunshots-bang, bang-did that for about seven times,” said Carrie Romance.

Some called the shooting "appalling." Others said it was "scary."

“It kind of freaks me out because I’ve got three kids upstairs right now, so it kind of freaks me out thinking that it could be us or this could have happened to us," said Romance.

Minton and Brown are being held at the Catawba County Detention Facility.

Anyone with additional information about the shooting or the suspect pictured is asked to call Investigator Hudson at 828-261-2620 or email at shudson@hickorync.gov.
