UNC Charlotte student seriously injured in off campus robbery, shooting

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A UNC Charlotte student was seriously injured in a reported robbery and shooting at a off campus residence Thursday afternoon, school officials say.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say they were called to the 1300 block of Bonnie Lane in Charlotte's University area around 12:40 p.m. where a man had been shot in the chest.

MEDIC took the man to Carolinas Medical Center in critical condition. He has since been upgraded to stable condition.

Witnesses said they waited to call 911.

Police say the alleged shooters were seen "fleeing the scene in a gray Nissan, heading east on Old Concord Road, away from campus."

There is no threat to the university, school officials say.

No names or possible motives have been released. So far, no one has been arrested in the case.
