ROCK HILL, SC (WBTV) - When it comes to hurricane relief in Houston, Rock Hill resident Leigh Anne Dodrill had a small idea that is getting a big response.
"Everyone wants to help and have something positive going on," she says. "And I think that's what they're grabbing towards."
The former Texas resident posted on social media, looking to get relief supplies together for a trip down to Houston. She and two friends will be renting Uhauls and making the trip next week.
"I'm ready to go now," Dodrill says.
Some of the local's family is still living in Houston. Thankfully, they are all okay, and ready to house her while she helps those in need.
"If we have to take multiple trips, we will," she says.
But first, Dodrill will need supplies – and that is where Facebook comes in.
The social media site has helped her get in touch with several local business owners, including Jeremy Haney.
"We all just want to help," he says.
Haney owns "Flippin' Jays" furniture store in Pineville. He says after just more than an hour of offering his store as a supply drop-off site, he had 36 packages of water.
"[The Houston devastation] is terrible to watch, so if we can do anything around here to help, we definitely will," he says.
Meanwhile, Dodrill wants to remind people, that even the smallest idea can make an impact.
"You don't know how big you can get, and it's worth trying," she says.
