SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) -

Police say a woman who overdosed at the Economy Inn on Bendix Drive was given a citation for child abuse.  The woman was found unconscious in the room by her husband.

The couple’s two young children were in the room at the time, according to police.

Sabrina Diane Proffitt, 31, was cited for misdemeanor child abuse.

Police were called just before 3 p.m. on Monday to investigate an overdose in Room 107.

The father performed CPR on the mother before police arrived. The woman was breathing when rescue workers arrived and gave her Narcan, a drug used to reverse the effects of narcotics overdoses.

Proffitt was found in the bathroom, and a needle and heroin residue were found in the sink, according to the report.

The children, ages 5 and 9, were found to be dirty and not enrolled in school, according to the police report. The Rowan County Department of Social Services was called to investigate.

Three weeks ago a woman died after overdosing at the motel.  Her two young boys were also in the room with her at the time.
