Pro Links Sports
to Manage Wells Fargo Championship
For Immediate Release
Charlotte, NC, August 30, 2017— The Board of Champions for Education announced today that Pro Links Sports has been retained to manage and operate the Wells Fargo Championship and Hollis Cavner, the CEO of Pro Links Sports, will serve as the tournament’s Executive Director.
“Pro Links Sports is recognized as one of the most successful sports marketing and management firms in professional golf,” said Kendall Alley, Chairman of the Board for Champions for Education. “Their team is very knowledgeable when it comes to golf and their relationship with corporations either involved or interested in a PGA TOUR partnership is tremendous. The Wells Fargo Championship has been part of the fabric of the sports community here in Charlotte for over a decade and we believe this group will assist us as we challenge ourselves to continue that commitment to the community.”
Since the tournament’s inception in 2003, Champions for Education, a non-profit 501(c)(3), has managed and operated the tournament raising over $19 million for local and regional charitable organizations. Charitable donations generated by the tournament will still be distributed by Champions for Education, the host organization, but the tournament staff will now be employed by Pro Links Sports.
“Pro Links Sports strongly believes the Wells Fargo Championship is one of the premier events in sports and certainly in professional golf,” said Cavner. “We are thrilled to have this opportunity to combine our experience with the Wells Fargo Championship team and take this tournament to the next level. Coming off the overwhelming success of the 99th PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club, the Wells Fargo Championship is in a unique position to accelerate its growth in fan participation, community engagement and charitable giving.”
Under the tournament’s new management structure, a Tournament Director, reporting to Cavner and the Board of Champions for Education, will be named later.
Pro Links Sports also manages the Valspar Championship on the PGA TOUR as well as four PGA TOUR Champions events— the 3M Championship presented by Post-It Products, Boca Raton Regional Hospital Championship, Insperity Invitational presented by UnitedHealthcare, and Sanford International presented by Cambria. In addition, Pro Links Sports facilitated the creation and now manages title sponsor relations and other key aspects of the World Golf Championships – Mexico City Championship. The company also assists with events and hospitality at the World Golf Championships – Dell Technologies Match Play and the PURE Insurance Championship, and operates pro-ams, hospitality and golf programs for various Fortune 500 companies.
The Wells Fargo Championship will be held at Quail Hollow Club April 30-May 6 in 2018 and April 29-May 5 in 2019.
