Catawba County man accused of assaulting, kidnapping girlfriend pleads guilty

CATAWBA COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -

A Catawba County man pleaded guilty to assault and kidnapping charges involving his girlfriend Tuesday. 

Jonathan Leslie Blackburn, 50, was sentenced to an active prison term of five to seven years after pleading guilty to assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, kidnapping, assault by strangulation and communicating threats. 

Deputies say they were called to a stabbing on Buddy street on April 20, 2015. They arrived to find a 28-year-old woman covered in blood on the ground outside.

The woman told police that Blackburn, her boyfriend at the time, attacked her with a knife, cut chunks of hair from her head, beat her and strangled her. 

She was able to escape and call 911 from a neighbor's house.
