CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Langston Wertz Jr./Charlotte Observer) - Football Friday night is becoming wild Wednesday this week.

With some wet weather on track for the Charlotte-area this weekend, high school officials are watching closely and in some cases moving football games. Currently there are six games scheduled for Wednesday, a rare day to host high school football. There are 11 more currently scheduled for Thursday.

So far, no Mecklenburg County games have been moved, though, at least two CMS athletics directors told the Observer that they are monitoring the weather and moving games remains a possibility.

Originally, the National Hurricane Center's predicted track for Tropical Storm Harvey -- or what's left of the system by later this week -- would have kept the heavy rain and thunderstorms well to the west of the Carolinas. Harvey has downgraded from a hurricane which has devastated Houston, TX, with torrential rain and flooding.

But computer guidance now suggests some of Harvey's remaining moisture, aided by other atmospheric conditions, will move into the Carolinas late Thursday and continue into Saturday.

Jeffrey Taylor, of the National Weather Service office in Greer, S.C., said Tuesday afternoon that some of the rainfall could be heavy.
