Blaze will give away free pizzas to celebrate opening of UNCC location

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Katherine Peralta/Charlotte Observer) - Blaze Pizza, which recently opened its first Charlotte location in South End, is opening another store Aug. 31 in University City area.

The new pizza place is in a 2,500 square-foot space at 8948 J.M. Keynes Dr., in the Shoppes at University Place shopping center across from UNC-Charlotte, Blaze said in a statement.

To celebrate the opening, Blaze is offering a free build-your-own artisanal pizzas on Sept. 1 from 11 a.m. to midnight to any customer who follows Blaze Pizza on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter.

California-based Blaze Pizza opened its first Charlotte restaurant last year in the Camden Gallery complex. The chain, which has several celebrity investors including LeBron James and Maria Shriver, has said it hopes to open eight North Carolina locations over the next few years.

Blaze offers signature and create-your-own pizzas made from fresh, artisanal ingredients for about $8. Blaze says its pizzas are "flash-fired" in ovens for 180 seconds, resulting in crisp crusts.

"The expanding area is a great fit for us, and we look forward to growing with the community," said Jimmy Sierra, co-owner of Carolinas Restaurant Holdings.
