CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Natanael Jose Rodriguez, 22, was shot and killed January 2, making him Charlotte's first homicide victim of 2017.

Seven months later, on his birthday, friends and family held a candlelight vigil for Rodriguez.

They remember him as kind, generous, friendly, and well loved.

The vigil concluded with a balloon release.

They met in the parking lot of Value Village shopping center on E Independence Blvd, then walked to the apartment complex where the victim was murdered.
