Two killed in Albemarle crash

ALBEMARLE, NC (WBTV) -

Two people killed in an Albemarle crash Thursday evening have been identified as 35-year-old Gary Thomas Jr. and 44-year-old Maria Frances Schumacher.

Albemarle police say the deadly three-vehicle wreck happened around 7:52 p.m. on the Northeast Connector near Moss Springs Road. 

Thomas was driving a 2010 Dodge passenger car when he crossed the center line and struck two other vehicles, including a 2001 Kia driven by Schumacher. A 2016 Chevrolet truck was also hit. 

A passenger in the Dodge was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center-Main for treatment. Thomas and Schumacher both died.

The investigation into the deadly crash is ongoing.
