Law enforcement respond after person refuses to come out of Monroe home

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Law enforcement officials responded Thursday night to a home in Union County after a person being served a mental commitment order refused to come out.

The incident began before 7 p.m. on the 1200 block of Griffith Road in Monroe. Authorities were still at the home at 11 p.m. trying to get the person to surrender.

Tony Underwood with the Union County Sheriff's Office said shots were possibly fired in the area.

Officers blocked the road around the scene.
