Campus police investigating reported sexual assault on App State campus

Officials with Appalachian State University alerted students Wednesday about a reported sexual assault that happened in a dorm room over the weekend.

The message from campus officials stated the student reported the assault around 3 a.m. Wednesday. The alleged assault took place on Saturday, August 19.

Officials said the suspect, who is not affiliated with the university, got into the residence hall by saying he needed to charge his cell phone.

University police are investigating the incident, and the university is "providing resources and support to assist the student who reported the incident."

The message to students, which was posted on the App State crime website, stated that the university was also continuing to "take actions to maintain the safety and security of the campus community."

No names or possible charges have been released.
