KANNAPOLIS, NC (WBTV) - A 19-year-old woman seriously injured in a reported near-drowning at a YMCA in Cabarrus County last week remains in the hospital.
The incident happened around 6 p.m. last Thursday at the YMCA on YMCA Drive, which is off of W C Street in Kannapolis. Police say lifeguards pulled the 19-year-old out of a pool and performed CPR until paramedics took over.
The victim was then rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
As of Wednesday, Kannapolis police said the teen is a "lucky girl" and has minimal brain damage, if any.
"We are fully focused on supporting the family as well as our staff and ask for the community to keep everyone involved in their thoughts and prayers," Cannon Memorial YMCA CEO Ron Davis said last week.
The teen's name was not released.
