Knights Beat the Tides 8-7 Tuesday
Charlotte Wins Fifth-Straight Game
(NORFOLK, VA) -- A six-run fifth inning propelled the red-hot Charlotte Knights to an 8-7 victory over the Norfolk Tides on Tuesday in game two of their four-game series from Harbor Park in Norfolk, VA. The win was Charlotte’s fifth straight and ninth over their last 12 games.
The Tides scored five runs over the first three innings, but the Charlotte offense battled back in the fifth inning against Norfolk RHP Tyler Wilson (6-8, 4.73), who was saddled with the loss. Down by a score of 5-1, the Knights scored six runs in the fifth against Wilson, highlighted by RBI singles from Rob Brantly and Jacob May. Danny Hayes, the team leader in RBIs, added a two-run single in the frame. Hayes leads the Knights with 19 home runs and 65 RBIs this season.
Leading the way for the Knights offensively were Hayes and May, who had two hits apiece on the night. The Knights combined to record 11 total hits in the game, while every player in Tuesday’s starting lineup had at least one hit.
Chris Dickerson and Chance Sisco both homered for the Tides, who tallied a total of 13 hits on the night. Both home runs came off Charlotte starter Steve Johnson, who allowed five runs on eight hits over four innings against his former team. Johnson did not factor in the decision.
Charlotte RHP Jean Machi (4-0, 4.05) earned the win in relief of Johnson. Machi allowed just two hits over three shutout innings. RHP Michael Ynoa struck-out two batters in the ninth inning to notch his first save of the season. The Knights have won each of the first two games in the series.
