GASTON COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - A man who police say should be considered armed and dangerous is on the run after escaping Ranlo Police custody Monday night.
The man is facing up to 20 charges, including fraud. Police say after finding more than a dozen fake ID's, they're not even sure what the fugitive's real name is. For now, officials are referring to him as "Juan Sebastian."
Sebastian was arrested Monday night during a search of his home.
During that search, officers found the fake ID's along with a stolen car worth $70,000 - which had bullet holes in it, bank accounts, fake checks, credit cards, firearms, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.
Sebastian is believed to have committed over a million dollars worth of fraud.
When Sebastian was arrested he was put in the back of a police car, but he wasn't there long. He was able to take his foot and squeeze it between the driver's seat and driver's door and hit the unlock button.
That's when police say another unknown person helped him get away.
Investigators believe Sebastian is a former member of the Colombian military. From all they've collected from his home and stolen car, it would appear they're not dealing with an amateur criminal. Officials say he's been involved with this for a very long time.
Ranlo Police have called in Federal help catching him.
Anyone who sees Sebastian or has any information about his whereabouts should call 911 or Crime Stoppers of Gaston County at 704-861-8000.
