Lucas Giolito Promoted to Chicago Today
Right-Hander Set to Make His White Sox Debut Tonight
(NORFOLK, VA) – Charlotte Knights RHP Lucas Giolito, who is 3-1 with 1.71 ERA over his last five starts, was recalled by the Chicago White Sox today. Giolito will make his White Sox debut and start tonight’s game against the Minnesota Twins in Chicago, IL. Additionally, RHP Carson Fulmer, who served as the Chicago White Sox 26th man on Monday, was returned to the Knights, while RHP Brad Goldberg was optioned to the Knights. Currently, Charlotte’s active roster features 24 players.
Giolito, 23, is 6-10 with a 4.48 ERA in 128.2 innings pitched this season with the Knights. He is currently tied for second in games started (24), second in shutouts (2), third in strikeouts (134), and tied for third in complete games (2). He was named as the International League’s Pitcher of the Week for the period of May 22-28 after he hurled a seven-inning no-hitter on Thursday, May 25 at BB&T Ballpark.
A native of Santa Monica, CA, Giolito entered the 2017 season ranked by Baseball America as the second-best prospect in the Chicago White Sox organization. He was acquired by the White Sox from the Washington Nationals on December 7, 2016 along with RHP Reynaldo Lopez and RHP Dane Dunning in exchange for outfielder Adam Eaton.
For the season, the Knights have now promoted 18 players to Chicago. RHP Tommy Kahnle (April 6), catcher Kevan Smith (April 13 & May 10), OF Willy Garcia (April 14, May 2, & July 27), RHP Mike Pelfrey (April 22), RHP Chris Beck (April 25), LHP David Holmberg (May 4), RHP Gregory Infante (May 15), RHP Tyler Danish (May 26), RHP Juan Minaya (May 26 & June 26), OF Adam Engel (May 27 & June 20), RHP Brad Goldberg (June 3 and July 19), 2B Yoan Moncada (July 19), LHP Aaron Bummer (July 27), INF/OF Nicky Delmonico (August 1), and RHP Reynaldo Lopez (August 11), RHP Danny Farquhar (August 19), and RHP Carson Fulmer (August 21), are the other 17 players who have all received promotions this year.
The Knights will continue their four-game series against the Norfolk Tides (Triple-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles) tonight from Harbor Park in Norfolk, VA.
