CHARLOTTE, NC (Jourdan Rodrigue/CharlotteObserver) - What was expected all week has now been confirmed.
Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton will not play on Saturday against the Tennessee Titans, a source confirmed to the Observer on Friday.
Newton has been held to a "pitch count" this week by the team's medical staff, after 12 days of not throwing in team warmups or drills during training camp. The quarterback continues to rehabilitate his surgically-repaired shoulder, and was withheld from throwing because of soreness, head coach Ron Rivera maintained throughout the time period.
On Thursday, he threw a handful of passes to receivers in one-on-one and seven-on-seven drills, but his timing appeared to be off and several fell incomplete.
