Woman hides in closet, calls 911 during home break-in in Matthews

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A woman in Matthews hid in a closet and called 911 when a man broke into her home Friday morning, according to police.

Around 11:47 a.m. Charlotte police got a call from a woman on the 8800 block of Elkins Park Drive. The woman said someone had broken into her home and that she was hiding in a closet.

Officers were nearby on patrol and quickly got to the scene. Once there, they saw a man running out the back door of the home. A perimeter was set up and, after a brief search involving K9 officers and a police helicopter, the man was found.

The suspect was taken to CMDP headquarters to be interviewed. Detectives were also reviewing similar cases to determine if they are connected. 

The suspect's name and possible charges have not been released.
