Rock Hill road signs honor longtime teacher

ROCK HILL, S.C. (WBTV) - Local legislators and Rock Hill school leaders unveiled a new road sign in honor of a longtime Rock Hill educator Friday.

The sign reads "In memory of Eric Lessmeister, 'Once a Bearcat, Always a Bearcat'."

Lessmeister began teaching and coaching in Florence, S.C. in 1969. In 1971, he started coaching and teaching at Rock Hill High School. He became an assistant principal in 1974 and was named principal in 1979.

Lessmeister retired in 1999 with thirty years of service in South Carolina public schools. He was a recipient of the Order of the Palmetto, the highest honor bestowed up a South Carolina citizen, for his dedication to public education.
