CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - As many students head back to school, school supplies are in high demand.
WBTV talked to local store managers throughout the area and found out how to get the best back to school shopping deals.
Target, Walmart, and Best Buy all have price matching programs so comparing prices for a specific item at different stores can result in paying the lowest price. However, most stores verify their competitor's prices before making a price adjustment.
Calling stores and checking online to make sure retailers have the items needed can help save time.
Walmart (Indian Land, South Carolina) Store Manager Keith Sanders told WBTV, a lot of schools and teachers require the same supplies, therefore some of the most basic supplies sell out quickly.
Sanders told us his store did more than $1 million in sales during tax-free weekend.
Sanders said while laptops and graphing calculators sell well, it's the basic items that can be hard to keep in stock.
"The basic rule paper, that's been the hottest selling item...basic things like Crayola, Crayola markers sell really really well," said Sanders.
Sanders also suggested downloading the Walmart app for school supplies needs and to save time shopping.
Walmart, Target, and several other retailers have store mapping tools on their apps which can pinpoint the exact location of an item.
