KANNAPOLIS, NC (WBTV) - A 19-year-old woman was seriously injured in a reported near-drowning at a YMCA in Cabarrus County Thursday evening.
The incident happened around 6 p.m. at the YMCA on YMCA Drive, which is off of W C Street in Kannapolis. Police say lifeguards pulled the 19-year-old out of a pool and performed CPR until paramedics took over.
The victim was then rushed to the hospital.
Friday, YMCA officials said the pool was still closed while investigators tried to figure out exactly what happened and why.
"We are fully focused on supporting the family as well as our staff and ask for the community to keep everyone involved in their thoughts and prayers," said Ron Davis, Cannon Memorial YMCA CEO.
On Friday, Kannapolis police said the woman was in the ICU in critical condition.
The victim's name was not released.
