“Speak Out” is an expression of opinion from the Editorial Board of WBTV, and is presented by General Manager, Scott Dempsey.
With the new school year just a few weeks away, many of us are gathering school supplies and making schedules. We ask you to add this to the top of your to-do list: Sit your kids down and have the BULLY talk. Talk to them about being KIND to their classmates, face-to-face and on social media. Tell them it is NOT ok to stand by and watch a classmate be bullied.
Tell your kids they can come to YOU if they're bullied or see someone else in trouble. Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools has the tools to help you on their MAKING IT BETTER website. You'll find good advice and support for parents, students and teachers in the form of written and video information.
There's even a special email set up to support which is simply firstname.lastname@example.org.
We hear of suicides and school violence every year traced back to school and cyber bullying.
Make a pre-emptive strike for the sake of your kids and your community.
Use the tools CMS is offering and have the talk today.
Tell us what YOU think. SpeakOut@wbtv.com.
