Forever Family: Meet Victoria

(WBTV) -

It's a very special day for all of us here at WBTV, the day when we feature our first Forever Family segment featuring a child looking for an adoptive home.

There's no one who can better represent how remarkable children in foster care can be than Victoria. She's an amazing young woman!

"I do a lot of sports. I get to play volleyball, softball, cheerleading, track. But I also dance, play the piano, and sing," Victoria told me. "Some qualities that I really like in myself, I am very obliging. I like to hear my friend talk to me and like when they tell me I am a good listener."

Child advocate Jolee Faison calls Victoria "very mature" in a lot of ways, but says she still has a kid-like quality.

Victoria's goals in life? There are three options that she sees.

"One is my own practice of pediatrics. And the second is social work. And the third is psychology," she said. "I want to give back to the community what I never got. I never really experienced the feeling of family."

Without having experienced that family feeling, Victoria has a good idea of what she'd like to have in a family.

"I think of family I think of like it’s a big support system. It is not like you are all alone," she said. "You know, there is love, there is care, there is hope."

"I've been told all my foster care life that people don't want to adopt, you know, teenagers," she said. "We just need people to understand that - yes, we've been through stuff - but do also need a care and support system."

Towards the end of my interview with Victoria, I was pretty much in tears because she is such a wonderful person.

When our children were young, we actually took in a teen, about Victoria's age, in to live with us. He was such an amazing big brother and role model to our children.

I just know that Victoria could be just like that, an incredible addition to any family. I know there's a family out there in our community for her...so, go ahead and pick up the phone! Or begin writing that first email that can change your life forever!
