'Person of interest' sought after robbery at Lincoln Co store

LINCOLN COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - Detectives in Lincoln County are looking for a person of interest in a "snatch and grab" armed robbery that happened Monday morning.

The incident happened around 8 a.m. at Jerry's One Stop on the 3700 block East Highway 27 in Iron Station. Deputies say two men went into the store and pretended to be making a small purchase. When the clerk opened the cash register, one man reached into the drawer and grabbed cash.

The clerk yelled to the owner, who then grabbed the robber from behind and took him to the ground. The man, however, got away from the owner and he and the other suspect ran from the store on foot going east on Highway 27.

A customer who was at the gas pumps followed the men, who the witness said got into a vehicle parked nearby and fled the scene.

No one was injured in the robbery.

Officials are trying to locate Tyrone Matthew Rozzell, 46, of Hickory.

Rozell is described as a black male, 5'6" tall with brown eyes and black hair. He was last seen driving a silver 2014 Hyundai Elantra with NC license plate FAB-1872.

Anyone with information on Rozzell's whereabouts is asked to call the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office at 704-732-9050 or the Lincoln County Communications Center at 704-735-8202.
