Manufacturer to lay off 64 as it closes its Salisbury facility

SALISBURY, NC (Katherine Peralta/Charlotte Observer) - The French manufacturing company Schneider Electric is closing its facility in Salisbury, and 64 workers will lose their jobs as a result.

Employees at the plant at 105 Summit Park Dr. will be laid off starting Oct. 26, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) notice filed with the state last week.

"We anticipate these changes, when finalized, would be permanent," the company said in the WARN notice. "Various factors" may affect the timing of the employment terminations, the company added.

Earlier this summer, the Salisbury Post reported that Schneider plans to transfer production to facilities in Pennsylvania and Columbia, S.C., by mid-2018.

It is unclear why the manufacturer is relocating productions to other locations. A spokeswoman could not be reached for comment.
