Food Lion to celebrate 60 years with a 6K

ROWAN COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - The Lion's Run 6K race and 1 mile children's fun run will take place October 14 in Salisbury.

The race will celebrate Food Lion's 60th anniversary and benefit Rowan Helping Ministries in Salisbury and Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina in Charlotte.

Both organizations work to end hunger in Rowan County and surrounding areas. They also partner with Food Lion's hunger relief-initiative, which has provided more than 300 million meals since 2014.

"Food Lion is incredibly proud to celebrate 60 years of nourishing the local community in our hometown of Salisbury, N.C., as well as thousands of others across our ten-state footprint," said Meg Ham, Food Lion president. "The Lion's Run is the perfect way to honor this milestone, as it gives our associates the opportunity to come together and help feed those in need."

The Lion's Run starts and ends at the Food Lion located at 123 Mahaley Avenue. All ages and abilities are welcome and encouraged to run, walk, or push strollers.

Participants may register for the race online at The cost per participant is $25 through the early bird date of Sept. 15.

Food Lion will provide fresh snacks, waters, and more during the race.
