CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A church in east Charlotte was evacuated due to an electrical fire Sunday morning.

The fire occurred around 8:20 a.m. at the Park Expo and Conference Center on Briar Creek Road.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said the building was evacuated while crews battled the blaze. The fire started on the second floor of the church, which is located inside the center, in a mechanical room.

The Park Church was preparing to hold their 9:45 a.m. church service when church members were evacuated due to the fire. Members of the church were able to extinguish the fire, crews said.
