SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) -

A Cleveland man was shot and killed on North Main Street in Salisbury Saturday night, according to police.

Salisbury police were called to Novant Health Medical Center around 7:41 p.m. regarding a person who was shot and was brought to the hospital by a private vehicle.

The victim, who was identified as 24-year-old Jeffrey Allen Ramsey Jr., died a short time later, police said.

The shooting occurred in the parking lot of a convenience store in the 1100 block of North Main Street, police said. Officers said Ramsey and the driver of the vehicle had met at that location.

There was an argument and Ramsey was shot once in the chest, according to police.

Detectives are actively working this case and have what they describe as "very good leads" on the ID of the shooter.
