YORK COUNTY, SC (WBTV) - A 22-year-old man suspected in the first homicide case in York County this year was officially charged Friday.
The incident happened Wednesday evening on Justin Drive off of Highway 161, near Clover. The York County Sheriff's Office says officers responded to a mobile home for a disorderly conduct call. Once there, they found 44-year-old Jerry Proctor dead.
The officer arrested 22-year-old Robert Cleveland Cribb Jr, who was found inside the home. On Friday, Cribb was charged with murder and two counts of possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
Officers have not released a motive or said how Proctor was killed. An autopsy was being conducted Thursday.
Neighbors who live on the dead-end street say it's a quiet neighborhood and everyone keeps to themselves.
"Down in this neighborhood we didn't think something like that was going to happen because they hardly ever get out, them people," neighbor Charles Costner said about the people who live at the home where Proctor was killed.
A woman who answered the door at the home where Proctor was found declined to comment Thursday.
According to Faris, this incident marks the first homicide in York County this year.
"Doesn't happen that often in York County," Faris said, "so let's hope it doesn't happen anymore."
