The recent rash of overdose calls in Salisbury became a stark reality for store owners and shoppers in downtown Salisbury on Friday afternoon.

Two people, a man and a woman, apparently overdosed and fell out on the sidewalk in the 100 block of N. Main Street.

It happened at around 3:00 pm.

Firefighters from the Salisbury Fire Department as well as Rowan Emergency Services and Salisbury Police all responded.

Emergency workers were able to revive the two after working over them for several minutes.

A five-year-old child who was with the couple was taken inside a store to be watched while all the activity was happening outside.

The street was closed for a short time and filled with emergency vehicles.

The two were taken to the hospital but should be okay, according to officials.

Police removed what appeared to be drug paraphernalia from the pick-up truck.
