CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

An impaired driver that fatally struck a pedestrian in northwest Charlotte Friday morning is facing multiple charges, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say.

Police say Donivan Jarrett Winters, 25, was driving a 2006 Ford F-150 on Brookshire Boulevard near I-85 around 3:03 a.m. when he struck the pedestrian, identified as 53-year-old Nefertiti Carial Foust, near the median.

Foust later died at the scene.

Police say Winters, who fled the scene, was later arrested and charged with driving while impaired, felony death by vehicle, and felony hit and run. Speed was not a factor in the crash, according to police.

The roadway was closed until around 5:30 a.m. Winters suffered minor injuries in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call detective Crum at 704-432-2169.
