CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A teen accused of pointing a laser at a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police helicopter was arrested Tuesday night.

Police say they were flying near Nations Ford Elementary School when they noticed a green laser targeting the CMPD helicopter.

Abrahan Saloman Romero, 18, "was standing outside of a vehicle, pointing the laser," CMPD says.

Officers stopped the suspect vehicle on Choyce Avenue and found the laser.

Romero faces charges of pointing a laser at an aircraft, which is a felony.

"The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department would like to remind the community that shining a laser into the cockpit of an aircraft can temporarily blind a pilot, jeopardizing the safety of everyone on board," CMPD says.
