Knights Drop Opener in Pawtucket 7-0
Casey Gillaspie Records Two Hits for Charlotte
(PAWTUCKET, RI) -- The Charlotte Knights dropped the opening game of their three-game series against the Pawtucket Red Sox on Monday by a score of 7-0 from McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket, RI.
Pawtucket RHP Hector Velazquez (7-3, 1.93) earned the win after he gave up just two hits over five shutout innings. Velazquez struck-out nine batters on the night. LHP Edgar Olmos notched his third save of the season after he threw four shutout innings.
The Knights managed a total of three hits on the evening. Casey Gillaspie led the way with a team-high two hits. Eddy Alvarez had the team’s other hit.
Chicago White Sox outfielder Avisail Garcia made his first rehab start with the Knights and went 0-for-4 at the plate. Garcia is currently on Chicago’s 10-day disabled list with a sprained right thumb.
RHP Chris Volstad (2-8, 5.91) started for the Knights and was saddled with the loss after he allowed seven runs (six earned) on nine hits over six innings pitched. RHP Jean Machi held the PawSox scoreless in two innings of work in relief of Volstad.
The Knights will continue their three-game series against the Pawtucket Red Sox on Tuesday from Pawtucket, RI.
