CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A ramp on I-485 in east Charlotte will be temporarily closed for resurfacing work.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation says they will close the exit ramp from the I-485 outer loop to Rocky River Road, Exit 36.

"The closure is part of a $5.8 million project to resurface about four miles of I-485 between Rocky River Road and Harrisburg Road, and resurfacing bridges on I-485 over Camp Stewart Road and Reedy Creek," the NCDOT says.

The ramp was set to be closed from 8 p.m. Thursday through 6 a.m. Friday, and then from 8 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Saturday. Thursday, NCDOT officials announced the closure was being postponed to the following week.

Crews will close the ramp from 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15 to 6 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16. The ramp will close again from 8 p.m. Wednesday night to 6 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 17.

As an alternate, NCDOT recommends motorists take Exit I-485 at Harrisburg Road (Exit 39), turn right at the top of the ramp and follow it to Rock River Road, before turning left and returning to I-485.

The project is expected to be finished Aug. 21
