CHARLOTTE KNIGHTS: Knights Beat G-Braves 7-5 Friday

Knights Battle Back to Beat the G-Braves 7-5 Friday
Eddy Alvarez Rips Two-Run Single in Three-Run Seventh Inning

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) – Eddy Alvarez roped a go-ahead, two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning to propel the Charlotte Knights to a come-from-behind 7-5 win over the Gwinnett Braves on Friday in a rain-shortened game from BB&T Ballpark in Uptown Charlotte.

Down by a score of 5-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Knights battled back against Gwinnett. Jake Peter drove home the first of the team’s three runs in the inning on an RBI single. After a Ronald Bueno walk, Alvarez changed the game with his two-run single. At that point, the Knights led the G-Braves by a score of 6-5.

Charlotte LHP Brian Clark entered in the eighth inning and was sharp. Clark held the G-Braves scoreless in the top of the inning and the Knights later tacked on one more run in the bottom of the inning.

With two outs in the bottom of the eighth, Rymer Liriano singled and Rob Brantly followed with an RBI double to give the Knights a 7-5 lead. With one run in and two outs in the eighth, rain intensified and the game went into a rain delay at 10:09 p.m. After a 49-minute delay, the game was officially called.

RHP Carson Fulmer started for the Knights and struck-out seven batters over six solid innings on Friday. Fulmer, who left with a lead, did not factor in the decision. In all, the Vanderbilt University product allowed two runs on just four hits. RHP Jean Machi (1-0, 9.00) gave up three runs on two home runs in the top of the seventh inning, but notched the win. Clark earned the save.

Peter, Cody Asche, and Jacob May all had two hits apiece in the Charlotte win.
