SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) -

The search is still active for a man wanted for murder in connection with a deadly shooting that happened July 31 in Salisbury.

According to the Salisbury Police Department, Joseph Whitmire is wanted for allegedly shooting and killing 22-year-old Shawn Spry on Link Avenue.

Officers were called out to the 200 block of Link Avenue in reference to an unconscious man in the yard. When officers arrived, they found the body of Spry with a gunshot wound behind an apartment building.

Police say Spry did not live on Link Avenue, but no other information was released.

Family and friends of Spry have created a crowd sourcing page to raise money for funeral expenses.

Arrest warrants have been issued for Whitmire for murder and common law robbery.
