GASTON COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - Carbon Monoxide detectors are being installed in police Ford Explorers in Gaston County, Gaston County Sheriff Alan Cloninger announced Friday.
Ford Explorer SUVs have recently sparked national attention over worries about exhaust fumes inside the vehicles.
Ford Motor Co. responded by promising to repair the vehicles, even as it continues to investigate the cause of the problem, the AP reports.
Cloninger says the detectors will be installed in five of the vehicles either by Monday.
So far, deputies in Gaston County have not experienced any issues while driving the Explorers, Cloninger says.
