KANNAPOLIS, NC (WBTV) -

A Kannapolis man will spend nearly ten years in prison after being convicted of kidnapping in a case from 2016.

Brian Charles Chiccarello was convicted in Rowan County Criminal Superior Court of felony first degree kidnapping, misdemeanor sexual battery, and misdemeanor assault on a female, according to a news release from Rowan County District Attorney Brandy Cook.

Judge Mark Klass sentenced Chiccarello to a minimum of 87 months to a maximum of 117 months in prison to be served at the expiration of 21-35 months which was the result of an out of county probation violation.

On November 8, 2016, deputies with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a residence in reference to a kidnapping.  Once deputies arrived, they located the victim who had black electrical tape around her neck and hands.  A deputy noticed injuries on her wrists, ankles, and mouth, as well as bruises on her arms and left eye.

The victim stated to deputies that she had been in a relationship with Chiccarello and that he was upset about a message she had on her phone.  According to the victim, he tied her up and hit her.  She was finally able to get away by cutting the tape.  Investigators located Chiccarello who had a long abrasion or cut on his arm.  He admitted that he and the victim had been in a relationship and stated that she had cut him earlier in the morning.

Investigators located black electrical tape in his sink.

Cook stated that “she appreciated the joint effort on behalf of Assistant District Attorney Tim Gould and the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office in holding Chiccarello accountable for his criminal conduct.”

"Domestic violence continues to be an issue in our community and that she appreciated the cooperation of the victim," Cook added.
