(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) – The Charlotte Knights dropped game two of their three-game series against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders by a score of 8-1 on Saturday from BB&T Ballpark in Uptown Charlotte. The Knights welcomed 10,524 fans through the gates for their 18th sell-out crowd of the season.
Jake Peter drove home Charlotte’s lone run in the bottom of the third inning on a groundout. Peter, who entered the game with a nine-game hit-streak with the Knights and an 18-game hit-streak combined from his time with Double-A Birmingham, finished the game 0-for-4 with the RBI. Rob Brantly chipped in with two hits for Charlotte who had a team total of five on Saturday.
RailRiders RHP Domingo German (3-1, 3.51) earned the win after he allowed just one run on three hits over 5.2 innings pitched. German walked one batter and struck out five on the night.
The RailRiders scored eight runs on 12 hits to earn their second consecutive win in the series. Jake Cave, Billy McKinney, and Ji-Man Choi all homered on the night. McKinney finished the night 3-for-4 with three runs scored, the home run, and two RBIs. Choi had three RBIs on the evening.
RHP Carson Fulmer (7-7, 5.71) started for the Knights and was saddled with the loss after he allowed six runs on nine hits over six innings pitched. Fulmer walked one batter and struck out six.
The Knights will conclude their three-game series against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Sunday at BB&T Ballpark. Gates will open at 4:00 p.m. with first pitch set for 5:05 p.m. Pre-game radio coverage will begin at 4:50 p.m. on ESPN Charlotte (730 AM) and CharlotteKnights.com. The “Voice of the Charlotte Knights” Matt Swierad and long-time Knights broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call for all of the action.
