13-year-old dies after SUV, ATV crash that killed 14-year-old friend

BURKE COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -

A teen injured when an SUV struck a four-wheeler last week, killing another teen, has died at the hospital.

Fourteen-year-old Jacob Wright was driving the four-wheeler on Baptist Camp Road in Connelly Springs around 6:30 p.m. Saturday. He and 13-year-old passenger Logan Duran were then struck by an SUV.

The 14-year-old was killed and the 13-year-old was airlifted to a Charlotte hospital with serious injuries. 

Just after 6:30 p.m. Friday, police said Duran had died at Carolinas Medical Center around 1 p.m.

Officials say neither of the teens were wearing helmets. Troopers said there were two people inside the SUV including a 3-year-old. The person and the toddler who were in the SUV received minor injuries.

Highway Patrol said the driver of the SUV was charged with driving while impaired, driving with a revoked license, child restraint violation and a registration/ uninsured violation. More charges are pending, troopers said.  

It is illegal for a four-wheeler to be driven on a road, Highway Patrol said.
