Teen shot in head in southeast Charlotte dies, suspect facing murder charges

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A 17-year-old shot in the head in southeast Charlotte Monday night has died, police say.

The victim, identified by police as Dionte' Hunter, was riding with a female passenger to meet someone in the 500 block of McMullen Way in southeast Charlotte when someone shot into their vehicle, police said.

At least one bullet hit Hunter, but he managed to drive onto nearby Monroe Road before the vehicle stopped, police said. His female passenger wasn't hurt.

The Charlotte Observer reports that the bullet hit Hunter in the head. 

Steven Monte Black, 20, was arrested Wednesday and charged with attempted first-degree murder in the shooting. Black is now facing murder charges, CMPD says. 

Black remains at the Mecklenburg County jail. 

A possible motive has not been released. Police have not said whether Hunter and Black knew eachother.
