CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A man was arrested and charged Wednesday in connection with a robbery at a west Charlotte hotel Monday night.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, 41-year-old Dennis William Brown reportedly walked into the Country Inn and Suites on Little Rock Road and told an employee that he had a weapon and demanded money around 10:21 p.m.

The robber then fled the scene, police said. Police described the robber as being 5-foot-8 and approximately 180 pounds. The robber was last seen wearing a black baseball hat, a black short sleeve shirt and sunglasses, police said.

On Wednesday, officers saw a man walking along Moores Chapel Road near Interstate 485 who matched the description of the robber involved in the Country Inn and Suites robbery.

Police say the man, who was later identified as Brown, confessed to officers that he robbed the hotel.

Brown was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon. Officers say Brown was also served an order for arrest from Catawba County.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police released this statement Wednesday:

"This arrest is an example of excellent communication between robbery detectives and patrol officers.  If it wasn’t for this patrol officers awareness and suspect recognition, this suspect would still be on the streets."

If you have any information about this robbery, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
