Lincoln County couple charged with trafficking meth

LINCOLN COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -

A Lincoln County couple is accused of trafficking methamphetamine. 

Deputies say they arrested Colleen Jewell, 38, and Derek May, 47, Tuesday during a traffic stop near the intersection of Lee Moore Road and Across Field Road. 

Detectives began surveillance operations after receiving complaints of drug activity at the couple's home. Detectives say they followed the couple, and that they picked up a large amount of meth from Charlotte and brought it back to Lincoln County. 

During the traffic stop, detectives reported seizing over an ounce of meth from the couple. The meth was valued at between $1,200 and $3,000.

May was charged with one felony count each of trafficking methamphetamine by possession, trafficking methamphetamine by transport and conspiring to sell methamphetamine. He was given a $40,000 secured bond. 

Jewell was charged with one felony count each of trafficking methamphetamine by possession, trafficking methamphetamine by transport and conspiring to traffic methamphetamine. She was given a $40,000 bond. 

Detectives say the investigation is ongoing and the pair may face additional charges.
