CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Interstate 77 at the Interstate 85 interchange has reopened after a multi-vehicle crash injured three people and shut down traffic for nearly two and a half hours Wednesday morning.

The crash, involving a tractor-trailer and two pick-up trucks, happened around 7 a.m. on I-77 northbound just prior to Exit 13, causing significant delays in the area.

The Charlotte Observer reports the interstate reopened just before 11 a.m. The North Carolina Department of Transportation initially expected the roadway to remain closed through 2 p.m.

Medic says two people went to the hospital with serious injuries from the crash and a third person was transported with minor injuries.

The DOT advised motorists get off on Statesville Road, turn left, proceed for two miles, and turn left on Sunset Road before getting back onto I-77. Beatties Ford Road to Sunset Road was also used as an alternate route.

Officials did not say what caused the wreck.
