ROCK HILL, S.C. (WBTV) -

A crash in Rock Hill sent a motorcyclist to a Charlotte hospital and closed part of Interstate 77 northbound for over an hour Monday morning.

Rock Hill police say the wreck happened while traffic was already backed up around 11:30 a.m. on I-77 northbound near the Cherry/Celanese Exit. The driver of a Chevy Silverado hit the brakes due to the back-up and was rear-ended by a motorcycle.

The driver of the motorcycle was thrown from the bike. That driver, who police say was not wearing a helmet, was flown to Carolinas Medical Center with very serious injuries.

I-77 was closed in the area of Exit 82 A-C for about an hour and a half. All lanes reopened just before 1 p.m.

No names have been released.
