GASTONIA, NC (WBTV) -

A person claims the van he was in was struck by a train in Gastonia Monday afternoon.

It happened on Cox Road at East Ozark Avenue.

A man says his grandmother was driving the van and they were stopped at the railroad crossing while the arms were down. The arms lifted and they started to cross. The man says that's when the railroad equipment came through and hit them.

The man says he was not injured but his grandmother was taken to the hospital. Her condition has not been released.

Police have not said whether the driver of the train gave similar information.
