CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Two people were released after being arrested in connection with a police chase in east Charlotte Saturday.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, officers found a stolen vehicle around 3:12 p.m. on Pence Road and Harrisburg Road. Police say the vehicle was stolen during an armed carjacking that occurred earlier in the day in the 10700 block of Providence Road.

Officers tried to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver of the vehicle refused and fled the scene.

While fleeing from officers, the driver of the stolen vehicle then struck another vehicle at Harrisburg Road and Parkton Road, according to police.  Police said the stolen vehicle received extensive damage in the wreck, but the driver continued driving until the vehicle stopped due to the damage sustained in the crash.

One person jumped from the vehicle and fled the scene with a gun, police say. Two people were arrested on scene and taken to police headquarters. On Sunday, CMPD said the two people who were detained were not involved in the theft of the vehicle.

Officers said the two people had just gotten a ride with the robber of the stolen vehicle and were unaware a robbery had previously taken place, according to police. The two people who were arrested will not face any charges, officers said.

Officers have not found the person who fled from the scene, but said they found the gun the person had dropped.

If you have any information about this incident, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
