CHARLOTTE KNIGHTS: Railraiders Walk Off With Home Win Against Knights Friday

RailRiders Walk Off with 2-1 Win Friday
Charlotte RHP Reynaldo Lopez Tosses Six Strong Innings

(MOOSIC, PA) -- RHP Reynaldo Lopez struck out six batters over six sharp innings, but the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders walked-off with a 2-1 win over the Charlotte Knights on Friday from PNC Field in Moosic, PA in game two of the four-game series.

Lopez allowed just one run on two hits over six strong innings on Friday, but did not factor in the decision. The 23-year-old right-hander walked just one batter and threw a total of 90 pitches on the evening. He also continued to add to his high 2017 strikeout total. He now has 107 strikeouts on the season and 39 over his last 31.2 innings pitched.

The Knights scored first on Friday and did so in the top of the fourth inning on a Danny Hayes RBI single. Hayes currently leads the Knights in both home runs (16) and RBIs (56). He drove in Charlotte’s only run of the game and had one of the team’s six hits on the night.

The RailRiders tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning on an RBI double by Jake Cave. He reached base twice on the night.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, with the game tied at 1-1, Charlotte LHP Matt Purke (3-4, 4.05) was back for his second inning of work. After a solid eighth inning, Purke had his troubles in the final frame. He allowed a one-out double to Donovan Solano, who then advanced to third base on a wild pitch. With one out and the game-winning run now on third base, Purke intentionally walked Jake Cave. Mike Ford then stepped to the plate and lined the first pitch he saw for a game-winning, walk-off single.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre starter Chance Adams gave up just one run on five hits over six innings and did not factor in the decision. RHP Nick Rumbelow (4-0, 0.00) came on in the top of the ninth inning and did not allow a run to earn the win. Charlotte has now lost six consecutive games.

The Knights will continue their four-game series against the RailRiders on Saturday with a 6:35 p.m. game from PNC Field. RHP Chris Volstad (2-5, 5.97) will get the start for the Knights against RHP Bryan Mitchell (2-2, 3.60) for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Pre-game radio coverage will begin at 6:20 p.m. on ESPN Charlotte (730 AM) and The “Voice of the Charlotte Knights” Matt Swierad will have the call for all of the action.
