Good Samaritan reportedly robbed at gunpoint while trying to help man on side of road

FORT MILL, SC (WBTV) -

A man was robbed at gunpoint after he reportedly tried to help a man who said he needed help with his car on the side of Fort Mill road Thursday evening. 

According to the Rock Hill Police Department, the victim was on his way home from work Thursday night around 7:19 p.m. when he a noticed a a man standing off of the road in the 2500 block of Doby's Bridge Road across from the Doby's Bridge Presbyterian Church. 

The victim told police the man allegedly appeared to be flagging down someone for help. The victim then pulled his car over and offered to help the man who reportedly said he had a dead battery and needed help to jump-start his vehicle, officers said.

The victim reportedly told the man to grab jumper cables and to open the hood of his vehicle. According to police, the robber reportedly placed a gun on the victim's back while the victim was helping the man connect the jumper cables to the vehicle's battery. 

The robber allegedly removed approximately $260 in cash from the victim's pants pocket, police said. 

The man then fled the scene and was last seen driving east on Doby's Bridge Road towards Indian Land in Lancaster County, officers say. Police say the man fled the scene in an older tan Chevrolet which had a dent on the hood. 

The victim described the robber as a black man, around 6-feet tall and approximately in his early to mid-40s. The victim told officers the robber was wearing a torn blue T-short, blue jeans and black sneakers. The robber was clean shaven and had short hair, according to the victim. 

The victim told police the robber was missing teeth on both sides of his mouth.
